Have you ever had best friend who leads your life to good direction? Have you ever had best friend who can keep the friendship with no border, and long term? I met some people from other countries I can say ” best friend” in my life. And I could learn a lot of things from them, and they helped me a lot. With no them, current Hiji doesn’t exist.

BBF(Best Friend Forever)

This time, I want to write about my first foreign best friend, Luis. He is a really kind Mexican guy, and we have been a best friend since 2006. I am sure that if I didn’t see him, I couldn’t enjoy the life in Toronto in Canada and might have disliked the life in foreign country. Some people might not believe that I could not talk to foreigners at all because not only my English level, but also because of my shyness. I sincerely think that he saved my life a lot. I am so glad that I still keep in touch with him and we can share the memory long time. And I am really lucky to have him as a best friend.

I couldn’t make any friends to hang around first one month. The language school I went had 8 levels and I started the class from level 2 (the bottom level was level 1, level 8 was the highest). At the level 2 class, I really couldn’t make any friends because I was so shy, and also, I couldn’t speak English at all… I chose a language school which didn’t Japanese students at all, so I couldn’t see Japanese students much, and also, they chose this school because the school didn’t have many Japanese students, so they didn’t want to talk with Japanese. I really felt lonely for a month.

When I stepped up to level 3 class, everything changed. I met a Mexican classmate, Luis. He liked Japan and Japanese TV games. So, he often came to me to talk. In 2006, I was smoking (but I quit smoking in 2009, so if you want to quit smoking, I wrote about The best way to quit smoking ), and Luis was smoking. During the break time, he used to ask me ” Let’s go to smoke” and we went for smoking together. It was a really fun time for me, and I was really glad that he asked me to go for smoking. There is a word for smoking, ” A hundred harms, and not a single gain”. But I believe that I got some good gains from cigarettes at that time.

I was able to make a lot of friends through Luis, and my life in Toronto completely changed. My English was still not good, but I could make some friends I could spend good time.

We went to Quebec states with a school activity. Luis and Nathalie (from Switzerland) asked me to go together. It is still a good memory of Canadian life. As I remember, Luis was 19 years old, and Nathalie was 20 years old, so all of us are over 30 years old… Time flies….

We took a picture in Ottawa(capital city of Canada) in Quebec state.

This was my best class in my life. The classmates were from different countries, and all of them(including the teacher) were so funny. All of us could not help laughing out during the class.

The teacher was not good first, and we went for the reception to complain about it. The Colombian girl (second from the left) asked everyone ” Let’s go to the reception! We didn’t come to this school to take this sh×t class with expensive tuition fee” and the teacher changed to this funny teacher.

Even now, I sometimes talk with Luis on internet. I don’t know how many time I talk with him, but I think that 3 or 4 time a year. In 2017, there was a big earthquake in Mexico and many people passed away. I was worried about Luis. Fortunately, people from his area were fine. He told me that Japan sent people to support Mexico, and said ” Thank you very much for Japan”

I was really glad to hear it. The world is getting smaller, so I really want to see him someday (Maybe, this year?).  I am looking forward to seeing you someday, Luis^^/

I was really lucky to make friend with him. I am sure that if you can make friend with someone like him, your life must change to good direction.
