【The fact of China】I tell you the goodness of China as a Japanese

I am a Japanese who is learning mandarin in Chengdu, Sichuan Provice, China. Now, the situation in China is serious because of the COVID-19, but I rejected to go back to Japan because I like the life in Chengdu. I basically write blog articles in Japanese, but this time, I want to write my article in English because I want to tell the good aspects of China to everyone in the world, not only for Japanese.

Every country has goodness and badness, so I know that China also has bad aspects. However, I really feel that many big mass-media in the world really focus on bad aspects of China ingoring good aspects of China. Now, I am in China and I found a lot of good adpects of China. I am really dissapointed about how internatioal media broadcasts about China. Therefore, I want to talk about the good aspects of China in this article.

Don”t you have prejudice for China and Chinese people?

I write this article based on my experiece and reasearch, so the sentence would long. I am sorry about it.

I used to have those kind of prejudice. However, the prejudice was completely gone after I started to live in China. I found a lot of things here, and there are still so many things I don’t know. As international media broadcasts, it is part of China. But some news are exaggerated , or just focus on bad aspects of China and broadcast them like it is everything of China. I do believe that USA controls it behind.

Now, in this article, I want to tell about the good aspects of China.

About food culture

Maybe, somtimes, you see some people who look down Chinese people like this. When I see people who have anti-Chinese bias, they sometime say like this, and I always response

 

Chinese people might eat more variety of animals and organs, but who decides

For example, Japanese people like to eat raw fish. Japanese culture and food are getting popular in the the nowadays, so some foreigners also started to eat raw fish now. As I know, until 15 years ago, eating raw fish was really strange thing in the world.

 

Japanese people like to eat raw egg with other meals or soy sauce. I think that it is still really strange for many foreigners.  Some of my friends still ask me

 

So these are the reasons that I wan to respect the other countries’ food culture.

The service quality and speed

The service quality in China is worse than Japan, but almost same as Australia(I used to live in Australia), and the service speend might be same or better than Japan, but much faster than Australia.

I get used to the service quality of Australia, it means I am satisfied with the service speed in China so far. Sure, the service quality in China is not as well as the one in Japan though..

 

Many Chinese people don’t like Japan?

To be honest, I mainly stay in Chengdu, so I don’t know outside of Chengdu though, but I have never met Chinese people who don’t like Japan this 6 months. When I go shopping, majority of people at the shops are so nice to me even they notice I am Japanese. I already knew that many young Chinese people are nice to Japanese, but even old Chinese people, they are so nice to me.

One of the reasons that I was a bit aftaid of old Chinese people was because I still remember this video… This is the video from soccer Asian Cup 2003. Japanese media broadcasted China like this↓

I think that The image of Chinese people is still like this for Japanese people. By the way, one of the stadiums which was used was in Chongqing. During the war between Japan and China(1938~), Japan fell a lot of bombs in Chongqing and many people died there. Chengdu is not so far from Chongqing. It takes just in 2 hours by bullet train.

Now, I don’t see any Chinese people who don’t like Japanese people in Chengdu. It is really awesome.

Speech control

Yes, to be honest, I think that there are some speeck control in China. However, it does not for everything. If you can criticise Chinese government if you do it with well manner, it is no problem at all.  Sometimes, I see the news “people are arrested because of ~~~~”, but when I see the videos, I always feel that “They did too much”.

Chinese government are doing good job much much much better than Japanese government, so I don’t have any reason I criticise Chinese govenment. There are always reason to be arrested.

Media control

Yes, apparently, the information is controlled in China. Mobile phone, bank, police, companies, SNS, everything is connected to Chinese government. However, I do believe that same thing is happening in USA as well, and many Japanese are using American companies in daily life. So, I think that my information is already absorbed by Japanese government and USA government. Then, I don’t care even my information is stolen by Chinese government.

Yes, It is hard to access to the information about foreign countries without VPN, and it is unstable sometimes. However, it is still possible to access to the outside of China, and many Chinese people also use VPN and get a lot of information from outside of China.

You have stomach problems if you eat meals in China?

There is no prolem if you don’t go to strange shops in the countryside. I have never had diarrhea for 6 months in China. However, just be careful when you have hotpot.

About rich and poor

I sometimes feel rich and poor here, but it is not so much comparing to the time when I lived in Malaysia. I am sure that there is no rich and poor here as Japanese people think. There might be some poor people in the country side, but you know that China has a lot of population and the country is super huge. The west side of China has a lot of mountains. Therefore, it is super difficult to solve rich and poor problem soon. It takes time.

I think that the rich and poor problem in USA is more serious. The life of countryside in China is getting better and poverty is imporved. So if you criticise about this problem only for China, you should rethink about it.

Minority races are discriminated?

At least, people from minority races in China get benefit about education. They can get extra credits to go to good university. Majority race in China is “Han race” and I heard that some people are uncomfortable about it though…

What is about Xinjian problem? Some Western countries say “China has some problems about humanity in the area”. Western countries say it is ”China has compulsory facilities” and China says “education centre”. Whatever, before China made the facilites, they were struggling with terror in Xinjian, but it got better after they made the facilities.

I want to go to Xinjiang someday.

The air is dirty？

In the mountain, countrysides, and some provices and areas have clean air, but the air in winter time in Chengdu is not good. Sometimes, I feel that my lungs are a bit heavy. When it is warm outside, the air is good, so if you want to trave to Chengdu, it might be better not to come here in winter time.

Infrastructure is not good in China?

In Chengdu, the infrastructure is amazing. The city is already developped a lot, and still they I see a lot of infrastructure everywhere in Chengdu. The subway is cleaner and better than subway in Japan.

I think that many cities in China developped a lot already, so you can travel comfortable in China.

I want to praise some efforts of Chinese government

I am sure that not only Japanese media, but also global media like to criticise Chinese government and president of China. And many people might not know what they make effort to support Chinese people and work for the future of China. They even contribute for global environment. I will explain about it.

Focus on education

To be honest, Japanese government should learn from Chinese government about education. Most of the Chinese people can have education until university. Most of the school in China are public school until university and super cheap. Students dormitories and canteen are super super cheap because Chinese government supports them. I heard from my Chinese friends how cheap the student dormitories are in China. It is 4 people in the room, and the cost is

It is not a year, it is a month.

I also sometimes use school canteen. It is very tasty and so cheap. I am sure that it is impossible to keep this price without the support from government.

The tuition fee of university is about US$2200 for a year, so it is cheap. If the family is poor and can not affort to pay for it, Chiense government would support for it. Exchange students can have good benefit about tuition fee, or they can have even better option to get scholarship. I really recommend you to study in China.

Focus on  infrastructure

I don’t know about the other cities much in China, but according to my friends, other cities in China also developed a lot already. My Korean friend who went to a small city in China for busiess trip told me that

He was really surprised about the city.

Investment for 5G and AI are amazing

Infrastructure for 5G and AI are so quick in Chengdu. One of the hospitan in Chengdu is usuing 5G and AI technology already. I think that Chinese government is helping for this invesment

QR code system is not so difficult in China

Some people might know already though, China is cashless society now. Some old people still use cash, but most of the young Chinese people don’t use cash at all, and use their mobile phones for many purposes.  I also don’t use cash over 2 months already(I always bring cash though).

If I have Wechat and Taobao, it is quite enough for doing a lot of things with QR code. It is very smart because 2 companies are enough to do a lot of things. If there are so many companies, it could be complicated.

Chinese government is thinking about minority races

Global media foucus on Tibet and Xingjiang problems a lot, but as I told before, minority races have a lot of benefit on education.

I have 2 friends who are from minority race, and I think that they are from countryside(I can tell it from a map). However, they seem they are from rich family because they are affordable to go to university for the master degree in foreign counties after the graduation in China.

Chinese government focuses on poor eradication

Poor and Rich problem are improved a lot in China. There are still some poor people in China, but Chinese government officially tells they will improve more.

Focus of greening plam

It might be not known much in the world, but this is the fact

According to NASA official HP, China and India contribute a lot for global environment.

These are the positive aspects that Chinese govenment is making effort. Thank you very much for reading this long article until the end.

I could not go out at all this 1 month, and I don’t know how long this situation would continue. I hope that COVID-19 would settle down soon.
