I didn’t go out much about 1 and half month after Wuhan was closed(23rd January). Here in Chengdu, we could go out, but many people didn’t go out much at that time because people didn’t want to get infected with COVID-19. I started to go out from second week for March, but I still didn’t go out much in March.
Now in April, I can see many people outside and I also go out quite often(but again, almost 100% still wear mask). People are still worried about COVID-19 and the measures against COVID-19 are still high level here.
The second wave of COVID-19 is coming in China?
When Wuhan was released, a lot of medias in the world started to say
The danger of second wave of COVID-19 might come in China
Probably, including Chinese people, many people in the world are thinking like that. According to my Chinese friend, after Wuhan was released, 60,000 people moved to Chengdu from Wuhan. One of my Chinese friends told me that
I will stop going to the city for several days
Even normal life started to come back to China, the wariness for COVID-19 is still high. Some medias pick up pictures of tourist spots and say
Second wave might come~~~
Yes, I know that medias are always like that. Please come to tourist spots in Chengdu. There are still really less people there comparing to before…
Panda base in Chengdu was closing because of COVID-19, and finally, they re-opened. I went to there on first weekend after they re-opened. Panda base used to be really crowed when I went there last year, but this time, there were really less people.
I was a bit worried about second wave of COVID-19 in China, but now I’m not worried about it much.
Why?
I will write about it
Wuhan / before
Do you still remember this scene?
The hospitals in Wuhan were completely chaos before. This happened just 3 months ago. I think that at this time, many people in the world thought
Ah, something is happening in China
I am sure that most of the people didn’t expect at this time that same scenario would happen someday.
I still can not believe that this happen just 3 months ago…on 23rd January.
In Chengdu(the city I am living now in China), we have high level measures against COVID-19, but in Wuhan, they have higher level measures against COVID-19. As I know, the level of measures against virus in Wuhan is much strict than other countries’.
The situation in Wuhan now
According to my friend in Wuhan, the normal life is coming back little by little. It is really good to know it. However, The measures against COVID-19 in Wuhan is still high level.
Strict measures

1:外出をする際、QRコードによる登録が必要で3つに区分けされているそうです。
緑色👉外出OK
黄色👉14日隔離(外出不可)

They need to get “Health Code” on QR Code, and need to show it whenever they go out from their apartment. Many places in Wuhan require this code to allow them in. It is categorized by 3.
Green color⇒You are allowed to go out
Yellow color⇒14 days quarantine(you are not allowed to go out)
Red color⇒Infected(you are not allowed to go out)
Whenever you go somewhere, you need to show your health code. Sure, there is a body temperature check as I have in Chengdu.
In Chengdu, I thought that we don’t need to get Health Code, but our university staff messaged us
Please get Heal Code to come back to university someday
So, it means I might have chance to use Heal Code as well..
I applied for it and got a green code it means
I am not infected by COVID-19
There are some questions on the process. I think that I can not cheat for the questionnarie because I have to report my health condition to university everyday, and I still get body temperature check at many places. The government can know my travel history so easily. So there is no chance to cheat.
Chinese government can track people’s movement, so it is safer in this situation
A supermarket in Wuhan is crowed with people now. The situation seems a little bit similar to Chengdu now.
People in Wuhan can move to other cities now, but…

Wuhan was released on 8th April and some people started to say
Second wave of COVID-19 might happen in China
As I mentioned before, 60,000 people already moved to Chengdu from Wuhan(I think that it is more now), and I was also worried about it a bit before, but I am not worried about it much now. There are some reasons for it.
1:High level measures in Wuhan(health check)
2:People need health check before they go to other cities. In the case they go to other cities without health check, they need 14 days quarantines in other city.
3:Chinese government must be worried about second wave of COVID-19 the most, so I don’t think they released Wuhan without making sure.
4:Strict measures at High speed rail
High level measures on High Speed Rail
I went for a short trip to see my friend by high speed rain after Wuhan released. There were two reason I decided to go for a short trip even I have a small chance to get infected with virus.
1: Most of my friends are foreigners and they already went back to their countries and can not come back to China. Some of my Chinese friends still don’t want to go out much, or stay parents home(not in Chengdu) because universities in China still don’t allow students to come in the campus. So it means I still don’t see my friends at all.
2:I wanted to see the high level measures on high speed rail by myself and to make sure it is still safe in China.
I already experienced the strict measures against COVID-19 in daily life in China. so I thought that the measures on high speed rail would be more strict and safe. So I wanted to confirm it.
When I took a high speed rail
There are some stations I can took a high speed rain in Chengdu, and I think that Chengdu east station is the biggest one.
At the entrance, you need to get first body temperature check by automatic thermometer. The passage is like a maze to make sure all the passengers’ body temperature.
Umm… I can see a police and staff with protective clothing from outside…
It is like a world of “Outbreak”. Most of the staff wear protective clothing.
In China, they are more sensitive for foreigners because there’s more chance foreigners would bring virus from outside. They take passport picture page, ask some questions and body temperature check again, and so on…. I think that this man on the picture is from Singapore.
This is the inside of the terminal. The terminal is always crowed, but this time, there are less people because of the COVID-19. You need to show your ID again when you get into the gate of your departure.
There were some many people in the train… so I got a bit nervous.
It took 40 mins from Chengdu to Meishan by high speed rail. Meishan is a small city with 3,000,000 people. The one way ticket was US$4.24.
US$4.24….It was really cheap!
When I got off the high speed rail
Two staff were checking passenger’s body temperature. The exit was only one, so no one can not avoid it.
One of the staff was taking photos of passengers. Two staff were checking ID. Foreigners need to fill the documents again, and I think that people from specific cities(for example, Wuhan) also need to fill documents.
They take photos of ID again, and body temperature check, some questions… I thought that all the process finished here but….There was another process
The police were taking all passengers ID photos.
Strict measures
This is the summary of strict measures to take high speed rail
<Chinese>
Body temperature check(Total : twice)
ID check(Total : 4 times/Police take an ID picture page once)
<Foreigners>
Body temperature check(4 times)
ID check(many times/Police and staff take ID picture page 3 times)
※A staff was taking pictures of passengers when we got off the train
How about it? It is very impossible to do this kind of strict measures against COVID-19 in Japan. I think that it is very difficult to do this kind of strict measure against COVID-19 in other countries.
It is very difficult to stop second wave against COVID-19 in other countires if China could not stop it
I already got tired of thinking about COVID-19, so I hope that second wave would not happen… I took a video when I took a high speed rail.
How about the measure against COVID-19 in Chengdu
I already wrote I wrote about it in Japanese a lot, but sorry, I wrote about it in English less. Please check this article later. You can get some useful information.
The measures for COVID-19 is less strict than before, but it is still strict. For example,
<Hard side>
1:There is no body temperature check when I come back home
2:I can eat meal inside of the restaurants(I also can go to gym)
3:There are less body temperature check outside
People still can not use public transportation if they don’t wear mask. And you still need to get body temperature check at many places.
<Soft side>
1:Many old people started to come to park to dance
2:Many people started to come to the city
Many people started to go out, but almost 100% still wear mask.
The measures against COVID-19 is still more strict than the one in Japan
To be honest, I think that if China could not stop second wave against COVID-19 with this strict measures, it is very difficult to stop second wave in other countries.
I wrote wrote this article because someday in near future, other countries would struggle to stop second wave as well. This situation might continue long time
It seems there are some gaps between “really” and “hope”
But I still….I really hope that COVID-19 would settle down in the future soon…
