It seems like more countries or cities start lockdown because of the Coronavirus and the situation is getting close to the the life I had last 2 months in China, so I thought that I might be able to advise from my past experience.

Currently, I live in Chengdu, Sichuan province in China. Without exception, Chengdu also has strict restriction from COVID-19. Now, the situation is getting better and better, but I still have hard time from COVID-19. After Wuhan was quarantined on23 January, my life in China completely changed suddenly, and I have had hard time, but I did not go back to Japan because I thought the hard time would pass throw someday. Thinking about the population of China and the number of people who infected from COVID-19 and die, I was quite positive that I would not get infected and die.

My mom asked me to come back to Japan 3 times, but I didn’t not go back because once I left China, I thought I would be able to come back to China as many foreign students are  struggling now.

The main area in Chengdu

Still now(22th March,2020), almost 100% of people in China wear mask when they go out, and  some shops still close, but I can go out and eat cheap and tasty food. So I do believe that my choice to stay in China without going back to Japan is completely right so far.

I wrote about the situation in China on the past articles, so please check them later.

On this article, I write about the situation that many people in the world might face near future (or even it might be happening now), and advice for it.

Many shops close

In China, many shops start opening from this month, but over 1 and half month from 23th January, most of the shops closed, and people did not(could not) go outside. As I remember, I went to the city area of Chengdu just twice in 1 and half month, and it was like a ghost town.

This situation could happen in other countries, and you might feel bored. Shops don’t open, and you don’t see people…

It gets harder to see friends

Friends in school in China

To be honest, this is the hardest part of quarantine. In Chengdu, we are allowed to go outside and government just asked people not to go out much and stay home basically. And it seems like many people in Chengdu accepted it. A lot of people in Chengdu stayed home and even now, some people just stay home.

It was normal to see friends before, but now it is hard to see friends. And it seems that many foreign friends already went back to their countries, and some of my Chinese friends seem that they stay at parents house and not in Chengdu… How comes I can not see my friends this long.

You feel uncomfortable when someone coughs

Whenever you go out and see a person who is coughing without mask, you might feel uncomfortable. Fortunately, almost 100% wear mask here, but how about in other countries?

Less exercise because gyms close

In China, a lot of gyms don’t open yet because there is more chance that COVID-19 spreads in the gyms because many people share exercise machine. I am not sure whether gyms open or not in other countries now.

You need to be more careful about your health

Body temperature check in the apartment

Especially, in China, I really need to be careful about my health because there are a lot of body temperature check everywhere in China, not only in Chengdu. Even I need body temperature check when I go in my apartment.

It means even I get fever from cold, I might not be able to go back to my apartment and there is a chance I need to go to hospital.

I am sure that in other countries, body temperature check is not strict like that, but if your body condition becomes bad, you might suspect you might get COVID-19 and worry about it.

Advice

One of the tourist spots in Chengdu

So I have some advice overcome this kind of situation.

You need to find something you can focus on at home

I am sure that you are forced to stay home long, so you need to find something you can focus on at home. It is better to think like

This is a chance!

It is a chance because no one asks you to play around you can focus on whatever you want to do by yourself. Anything is fine. For me, it is basically blogging and studying mandarin, and sometimes, editing videos. No one interrupts you, so you had better focus on something.

Sleep well/Eat healthy food

You need vitamin

You had better sleep well, and eat healthy food. It is the only way you can avoid worrying about being infected with COVID-19. You might worry that you might get infected with COVID-19 if you get fever. You might have more chance to die if your immune system is going down. Be healthy.

Be positive (You need to think it is a chance)

If you lose something to do, you get something to do at the same. Please don’t waste your time. If you can not work, study or do something for your future.

Advice from Chinese government to avoid COVID-19

Fortunately, in China, I got a guidance to avoid COVID-19 in mandarin and Japanese, so I summarized it to English here. I hope that it is helpful for everyone in the world. If you can read Japanese or mandarin, please go to my Twitter and check it directly.

1 :  Don’t go to the area(like Wuhan) that Coronavirus is serious.

2 :  To prevent the spread of Coronavirus, please avoid visiting to or having meals with your relatives or friends, and stay home as possible.

3 :  Please don’t go to crowed places like public areas which poorly ventilated. For example, Spa, movie theater, internet cafe, KTV(karaoke), shopping malls, station, airport, wharf, exhibitions.

4 :  Whenever you need to go out, please wear N95 mask.

5 :  Please keep your hands clean and don’t touch public areas as much as possible. When you come back home, after you cough, before you have meal, after you go to washroom, wash your hands with soap or sanitizer.

Don’t touch your nose, mouth and eyes with your hands as much as possible.

Don’t use your hands when you sneeze or cough, please use your elbow or clothes.

6 : Observe your health, family’s health carefully, and if you(your family) feel fever, check the body temperature. If you have children, touch your children’s foreheads every morning and evening. If you feel fever from your children’s forehead, check the body temperature.

7 : If you suspect you might get infected with Coronavirus, at first wear mask and go to closest medical facility. When you go to medical facility, please avoid using public transportations. When you diagnose, you need to tell the doctor following things

⇨ Whether you went to areas or not which Coronavirus is epidemic.

⇨ Whether you met other people or not after you felt sick.

8 : Improve room ventilation

9 : Don’t share towels with your family, keep cleaning dishes, clean your clothes and bedding frequently.

10 : Eat balanced meals and exercise properly.

11 : Don’t touch, purchase, eat wild animals. Please avoid going to markets which sell living animals.

12 : Please prepare thermometer, N95 masks, sanitizer at home.

Be positive!!!

I think that many people in the world would experience a lot of things they have never had in their life from now on.  It must be so hard to keep being positive, but it is necessary.  I hope that many people would overcome this hard time and become stronger.
